Peter C Metcalfe, T E Lawrence Society,

Dear Peter,

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead.

I have now reached 1920, with Syd playing in the top football teams in Baghdad. Faisal comes to all the big matches, and thousands of local Arabs come, screaming "Seed, Seed,", along with thousands from the R.A.F. and the army.

The significance of Syd will be great if there are few other well documented parallel careers to Lawrence. Also, if the other autobiographies lack the meticulous, effusive style of Syd - his attention to all sorts of 'irrelevant' detail. I have not read the other books by men in the Middle East, so I cannot judge. However, if they fail to complete the backdrop, then Syd is very valuable.

Yours sincerely,

Ivor Catt.
